NEW CAR

At last we have a new car...... I don't have to  live in dread of the clapped out golf collapsing on me as I go over a speed bump, there is some sort of split in the rear axil (is that how you spell it....I have never had to write that word before!!!!)  it's be going for 4 years with this problem but the way our luck is going with cars at the moment I feel it's only a matter of time before  it breaks altogether........

The only worry now of course is that I will prang the new one! We have been driving around in such old bangers for such a long time I have ceased worrying about bumps and scratches but that has all changed now that I have a shiny new model.
the clutch feels very different so as soon as I tried to pull away the first time ......I stalled !!, very embarrassing

SKYPE

Ian and I did our first ever Skype call last night! It was quite hilarious  and also great to talk to Sam so far away, he found us  very amusing , both with our specs on squinting at the screen. There is a photo somewhere that he took of the two of us, I will try to upload it later.

ACUPUNCTURE

Just off to have some pins inserted into various parts of me.... I love it and hopefully will stop that "tired all the time "thing so watch this space!!!

WHERE DOES THE TIME GO??

Have been very lazy and not done any blogging at all.... think it is a protest to myself about being back at work, I just can't get out of the holiday mode.
Luckily work has been quite quiet so I have been easing myself in slowly. I did go and see some post natal mums today and had my fix of new gorgeous babies, so I am back in the zone now!!

GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART

The house is beginning to empty out... Strange as it has been so busy this last year. Sam left for Glasgow about 10 days ago. He packed all his room into the back of the car and Ian and him set off one Friday evening. I got a call at 10pm to say the car had broken on the M6 . The AA couldn't start it and to cut a long story short the scrap man came yesterday to take it away for us. That's 2 cars in 2 weeks.... not bad! We are now driving a clapped out old golf which is also bound for the scrapman as soon as we get a new motor!! The bank balance is not looking so good!

Anyway Sam is up there now and feels miles off, he seems happy enough but obviously it will take some time to settle in. He was either drunk or hungover last week and now the course has started so not such a drunken week.

Becca is off on Friday to Leeds and then its just Charlie and Jo left. Charlie is trying to find some work to save for Australia trip so he is not around so much either. Poor Jo is just left with us....

We have some lodgers to fill the empty rooms next week and to fill the empty bank balance......

TREATS

Am really feeling in need of a pick-me -up (stupid really as just had 6 wks off) so have booked myself in for a massage as my shoulders are solid and a friend has just completed a massage course. Also going for my regular session of acupuncture which is also from a friend. I just love it and it really boosts my energy. I find it very helpful pre menstrually as it keeps me more rational....!!!!

KNITTING

Well the season is upon us to start in earnest and I am getting some requests already.... Have gone snood  knitting mad and have several lined up in waiting. Also just finishing a pair of gloves for me ...It feels pretty cold first thing when I am out with the dogs at 7.30am. I have a LOT of wool to get thru so need to get those needles clacking. I am tempted to have another go with a patchwork blanket as Sam's came out soooo good!!

LAST DAY OF THE SUMMER HOLIDAYS

I cant believe its all over....... where did all that time go? What a lovely summer we have had, a beautiful week on the Isle of Wight in some hot sun......

Quite a few birthdays and celebrations

watching the Olympics but not quite getting there!!!

and of course Italy and exploding cars.......

Anyhow we all got home safely and now everyone off again, Sam to Glasgow this weekend, that feels strange, for all of us, I am making little boxes of food and useful stuff for him but also feel I should just let him get on with it and find his own way, its all very hard this flying the nest business!!
Becca back to Leeds in a couple of week and then its just the 4 of us left though i am expecting 2 lodgers, to fill up the place and also help with the ridiculous university fees!
It always feel like a really fresh start at this time of year , with all sorts of resolutions and plans, more so i feel than New year. Anyway to celebrate we all went out to lunch in Brixton Village to Franco manca, and had THE most delicious pizza, YUM followed by ice cream

SOME HOLIDAY PHOTOS

GETTING READY FOR UNIVERSITY.....

Sam off to Glasgow School of Art next week after a long wait as he missed a place last year, after all the wait and the long build up he is now feeling quite nervous.... Charlie , his younger brother, who has just finished his A levels and having a gap year, is very excited for him. we all went to IKea to buy stuff for him, it could have been a nightmare  but we all had a jolly time, me and my 3 lads, a good memory!!

MIDDLE AGE SPREAD

Have a look at some of the photos and you will see what I mean.... I have decided to attack the bulge with excercise and have vowed to go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, starting tonight.... it was awful... the cross trainer I was on wasn't registering my pulse properly so I was on a very high resistance, I could only manage  20 mins run, so finished with a cycle and a few abs.One of my new years resolutions was to be able to touch my toes so then i had the grim task of stretching my ham strings.... Ahhhhh ...I would rather give birth!!!
I can now touch my toes, just, the next goal is hands on the floor!!

HOMECOMING

My big girl Becca is home tomorrow.... YIPPEE!! she has had a month in Thailand, really looking forward to seeing her, she has already put in her order for tea... veggie lasange!!

A FEW HOLIDAY SNAPS... As you can see there was car trouble, BIG car trouble, it blew up and needed scrapping. We had to fly home which meant leaving A LOT of stuff behind as we had stuffed the car FULL!!

HOME FROM HOLIDAYS

HOME AGAIN....

What an adventure we have had.... Went on a camping holiday to Italy, the lakes which was fabulous, beautiful towns, great markets, clear blue water in the lakes, amazing light in Venice, lots of fun with the boys, wonderful food... I could go on but then..... the car blew up... yes actually had steam coming out of the bonnet and liquid bubbling out into  the road, quite impressive really. Thank God for the AA as we basically rang up as if in UK and they sorted it, more or less..... The radiator was shot to bits and the garage couldn't be sure that it would work even with a new rad so we decided to ditch it.....  Didn't think i was emotional about cars but I felt sad walking away and leaving it behind, poor old thing had done its best to get us all the way there and drive us around until the last 2 days but it died!!

1ST DAY HOME

As usual woke early thinking about how much washing I had to do so no lie in for me, also had a rotten headache as didn't have much of a chance to drink yesterday and was very dehydrated. Put some washing on , only to realise 3hrs later that I hadn't actually turned it on so didn't get as much done as I had hoped. Looking after a friend's 2 dogs so have 4 to walk , feed etc. 2 found a rotting carcass in the garden and rolled in it, the smell was unbelievable, I washed 1 dog twice, cleaned her teeth, still vile, later realised it was still on her collar, even after a good wash, that still smells, must say I am off dogs at the moment!!
Off to do a private ante natal class   which is always an effort to leave but generally fine when i am there, very nice woman, so we had a good old natter and the fee goes into my envelope under the bed for my special treats.....

Haven't uploaded my photos yet but will do so shortly and stick a few up here.....

WHAT TO KNIT NEXT???

KNITTING DILEMMA......

Well I've finished the blanket and it looks great, I have also done another snood which looks great but I may have done it a little on the tight side and now I can't decide what to do next. My heart is with snoods...( i never thought I would say that...!!) but I am feeling I should be a bit more adventurous. We are off on holiday at the weekend and driving all the way to Italy which means a good 30 hours of sitting in the car and that is EXCELLENT knitting time  so I have to have plenty of ideas and plans up my sleeve as I cannot take all my wool, needles and pattern books with me....
maybe I should do another blanket and do squares again, or maybe its a good time to embark on a pair of socks. Or maybe this just means I need to go down to my local knitting shop and buy more wool and knitting books......

MIDDLE AGE SPREAD

I was doing soooo well, went to the gym 5 times last week and could already see a small change in my body shape and have now started eating so much my tummy hurts but I still can't stop!
It started on Saturday at a noodle bar, continued into Sunday with my very own yummy meal and the divine cake, yesterday was a day out at an Olympic party which involved an excellent spread and then today at a friend with lots of hot dogs and cake followed by some of the remaining cake when i got home. I will hopefully be putting my bikini on on Sunday.......

GOOD READS

I am struggling to find a few books to take on holiday. Just finished"me before you" jojo moyes which was a good story and interesting theme but way too waffly for me, Also read "the 50 shades "and will take the last one away with me but that will not last me 2 wks. There has been so much hype and discussion about the book, they are complete rubbish but I have really enjoyed reading them, pure escapism and a good romp!!

OLYMPIC FEVER

We haven't turned the telly off for 10 days now .... its been soooo exciting and good old Team GB, doing so well and on the whole making it look quite easy. Easy to forget the hours and hours a day of very hard training to get all those medals!

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Charlie was 18 a couple of weeks ago and celebrated in Aiya Napa on a boys trip which involved ,I'm sure, lots of things a mother shouldn't know that her child is doing. However to make up for that we had a small party at home with close family friends. It was very low key but really just perfect! We all watched Murray beat Federer and win a gold medal and cycling events and rounded off with 100m final! A great day!

Though I say so myself the food turned out to be delicious, slow roasted chicken with chorizio and sweet potatoes. The main event was the cake, made by a friend of mine who is FANTASTIC! She has made cakes for us on several occasions and they are always AMAZING
