MY BIRTHDAY

Spent my birthday this year on the Isle of Wight in Seaview. The weather was unbelievable, really hot and Sunny too. This is walking my dogs on Proiry Bay on the morning of my birthday... who could ask for more!

FINISHED!!!

Here is the patchwork blanket, finished at last, I must say once I started putting it together I became more inspired to knit more because it looked so good, though I say so myself. Sam was by himself in the house a couple of night last week and he said he wrapped himself up in it and felt better!!

WEEKEND

A quiet weekend really as most children busy so just Ian , me and Joseph. Took a trip to Covent Garden to do something skateboard maintenance and saw this quite baffling sign. Took a while to work out where quite a lot of the waxing was happening........ Tried to persuade Ian to go for one of the more interesting ones... but he wasn't having any of it......

DULWICH WOODS

Boys out cycling and wives are left to walk dogs and drink coffee. A rare sunny day so it was rather lovely up in the woods espescially when we found a little van that was serving breakfast etc up at the allotments. So we sat in the sun and looked out over the greenery of the allotments and woods with the City of London just 6 miles away. Wonderful!!

DAD

This is my Dad a few weeks before he died, back in April. He was 91 yrs old. Today my sister and I scattered his ashes up at his family plot in Redhill with his parents and brothers. It was a final goodbye and I felt sad driving away and leaving him there.

A QUICKIE BEFORE BED......

Its raining again but I braved it and took the dogs for a walk this evening in my wellies. What a delight...I was pretty much the only one in the park, the sun was trying to come out and there were huge black clouds. The light looked amazing. The field was pretty much water logged and there were huge deep puddles. As I has wellies on I waded through them and was transported back to my childhood where I lived down a little country lane with the River Mole at the bottom. My friend and I would take off on our bikes and disappear till lunch and then out again till teatime. We spent the whole time wading up and down the river, catching sticklebacks and minnows, making camps.......IDYLLIC!!

Sam's patchwork blanket is staring to take shape, it will probably be twice that size so hopefully I won;t feel like I need to do more squares...

AWWWWW MURRAY

It was all so promising at first... I really thought he might do it.... but what a great match, and I had a few tears when the poor man had to speak at Centre Court just minutes after losing!
Charlie was working there today and somehow managed to be on Centre Court for the final minutes , and to think I had to drag him off the sofa to get to the train to go into to work.. he was all for lying on the sofa all day and watching it on the TV!

KNITTING

AM not far off finishing enough squares for this flamin' blanket, I am completely sick of it and have a nasty feeling its going to be a nightmare putting it all together as all the squares are slightly different sizes. I think I have about 10 more squares to go, so shouldn't be long but I think I will start sewing tonight....

MIDDLE AGE SPREAD

Put on my jeans today and realised they are getting quite tight, have been contemplating Weight Watchers for a while... I have done it very successfully before and kept the weight off for quite a while but it slowly crept on. I only want to loose 8lbs but it is hard to get really motivated . There is a meeting on Tuesday... shall I go???

HOLIDAYS

Both Becca and Charlie off this week, Becca back to Kalkan with her boyfriends family. I am very jealous as it is REALLY beautiful and the most amazing sea! Charlie off on a boys trip to Aiya napa ....I don't even want to think about that.

ITS BEEN A WHILE

A few days past and no time, or maybe inclination ,to write anything...but have some time tonight. Tea cooked ... bangers and mash, onion gravy...YUMMMMM, Ian out, kids all sorted  so no excuse.

PIANO LESSON

I would just like to say now that I LOVE my piano teacher and my piano lessons!!! have just restarted again after several attempts and a few restarts since grade 2ish as a child. I have made real progress this time and am now playing the music that I really love without fretting over finger positions and theory. Have managed  a simple version of "the Piano" theme tune and now having a go at Amelie and also Ludivicio Einuadi, so its good to be able to sit down and have a reasonable go at some lovely toons. Have got Einuadi playing in my ears as I write this, it is such beautiful music and I imagine myself sitting there and being able to play...(no chance)

FAMILY

AM struggling with middle boy (18yrs) just left school. We have always had a turbulent relationship and I know that I am nagging him BIG time right now and I should back off ...but I can't ...How do you do that?? Its driving him and me crazy. I had a bit of a moment in the car today as I was just about to drive off from home and saw someone looking in at my house and I suddenly thought how lucky I am and all the MANY blessings I have and that i am REALLY going to try with Charlie and give him some space. He is taking a gap year to do some travelling and I am fretting about him making enough money to do it ... so I nag!!!

The house is unusually quiet right now as big 3 are working at Wimbledon tennis and Becca's boyfriend is away so we are down on numbers. It was just Joseph and me tonight for supper. Very unusual, we had an interesting chat about prehistoric man and how they lived and what they would eat before they mastered fire and could cook. We both thought hat given the chance to travel back in time to one period that we would go to the Tudors, but the we thought we might bring the Plague back with us, so not so good!

BOOKS and READING

HAve just picked up a lovely book called " the unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry". Just a couple of Chapters in but can already see that its going to be a good one.Certainly better than my last one.."FIFTY SHADES" which is utter rubbish but quite saucy none the less and served a purpose...
Book club tomorrow were we will discuss"Dinner at the homesick cafe". not bad really

KNITTING

The patchwork blanket is getting closer to an end.....YIPPEEE. I think I have about 14 more little squares to do and then the mammoth job of putting it all together. Hope it looks good as has taken up a HUGE amount of time

MUESLI

Though I say it myself I do make the most delicious muesli/granola......
here is its progress

Just before it goes in the oven

just out of the oven and waiting to cool before I add the best bit.... all the dried fruit. Should be ok for breakfast tomorrow
